Science/Evolution/Creationism in Public Schools

We need to take a hard look at this trend toward teaching Creationism/Intelligent Design in a mainstream public school science/Biology class? I think it should not be taught there and should only be in private church schools if they choose. It violates church and state laws because every religion has it's own unique creation story/myth and we cannot impose religious beliefs/ideology in a public classroom on children of different faiths like some of the conservative State Board members are attempting to do. The university science faculties are fighting it tooth and nail to protect science literacy in Texas!.

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/state/headlines/20110717-texas-board-of-education-to-debate-evolution-again-as-science-materials-reviewed.ece

I agree there is a creator, the original scientist, I just don't think he created billions of enzymes, complex molecules and organisms at first but rather he simply started the process by designing a few simple molecules and put them into his grand experiment and let it play out and evolve over billions of years to keep himself entertained how it would play out - so simple, logical and so elegant, much more than creating it all at once which seems very unlikely/impossible and way too overwhelming even for the creator to do in a short time considering the vast variety of plants animals, bacteria and the first near life forms/macromolecules the nasty little viruses who are continually evolving as we speak. Granted he may have guided/tweaked the process occasionally like in a huge game of chance in order to create his masterpiece, Man. Could be his masterpiece is a simple insect like a tropical butterfly or perhaps a Siberain Tiger, two much more beautiful elegant animals. He may tweaked us as part of the experiment just to see how long it would take us before we destroy our planet and then start the process all over again, which actually happened when the dinosaurs were wiped out and 90% of all species 70 million years ago when a huge meteorite slammed into the Yucatan and created a nuclear type midnight for years.
This is why some of we mainstream religious scientifically literate people call ourselves theistic evolutionists. ALL mainstream faculties at major universities like TAMU, Yale, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, UT support some model of evolution, so why is it so difficult for intelligent people to to accept? Go ask any geologist and paleontologist at A&M, UT or Rice and see what they say. You don't have to do that because you know what they will say!

Since we as educators are involved in the Science/Evolution vs Creationism ongoing debate, a new book summary of the problem, Scientists Confront Creationism- Intelligent Design and Beyond, is a must read so you can see the latest scientific arguments.
This will become a very important issue in the next election, especially if the Tea Party gains control of the Republican Party and nominates a fundamentalist like Sara Palin or Michelle Bachmann. If that happens I will become an independent or Libertarian and vote for the Libertarian candidate or not vote at all. I believe most of the voting GOP is more intelligent/well educated and will nominate Romney who is more moderate and can beat Obama, which Palin, Bachmann and other far right Christian fundamentalist Tea Party candidates cannot do because of so many well educated independents and Republicans. All the mainstream press has do is interview them and ask a few mainstream science or socially charged questions and that will be the end of them like it did for Sara Palin last time concerning the idiotic "dinosaurs walked with men 4,000 years ago" statement!
The future of legitimate science Education in American public schools could be at stake and we as science educators must take up the banner and encourage everyone to make an informed decision rather than an emotional one exclusively based on religious convictions. The entire mainstream scientific community agrees that life on Planet Earth is a slow process over billions of years not thousands. All one has to do is imagine Dinosaurs and Man living together 4,000 years ago as Sara Palin believes, and it all become self evident. The Noah's Ark story is another obvious contradiction in reality if taken literally. If the private church related schools teach this they have that right to do so, but they will be doing their students a disservice when they apply to colleges and to graduate/Medical School because they will be at a large disadvantage by not being completely scientifically literate.

The Creation Museum Hoax : Sarah Palin and Dinosaurs on a Sunday Afternoon Stroll down the Paluxy River

Fox News is advertising the new Creation Museum in LA that teaches that Men and Dinosaurs walked together on the Earth around 4,000 years ago and the Earth is no more than 6,000 years old according to Bishop Ussher's proclamation based on prophesy during the 16th Century during the Scientific Renaissance (his date for Creation was 4004 B.C.). I can see this museum being a big hit in hedonistic modern LA, perhaps as tourist trap for religious believers at the La Brea Tar Pits where many fossil remains exist much older than 4,000 years, more like tens of thousands!

This museum perpetuates unscientific myth detrimental to science education in this country and believed by fundamentalists like Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and other Tea Party presidential candidates. If they win, science education in this country could be taken back to the Dark Ages for many in private church and some public schools, assuming there are certified science teachers that would teach "Creation Science" as legitimate real science. If the Republican Party nominates a fundamentalist Creationist candidate, they will lose the next election after the first interview when they admit they believe that men and dinosaurs walked together like Sarah Palin has already admitted and consequently has made her the laughing stock of well educated people, the mainstream media and the left.

If they win the republican nomination, I will declare myself to be an independent and vote for the most intelligent pro real science candidate that will maintain legitimate science education and keep the 200 real Natural History museums funded and not the religion based Creation Museum - that would violate separation of Church and State. My prediction is that the hokey Creation Museum will close it's Dinosaur /Man exhibit as did the original Morris Creationist Museum in Glen Rose, Texas after they were exposed as fake human tracks in real dinosaur tracks from the famous Paluxy River formation! I have seen the real tracks and there were no human tracks anywhere to be seen.

I'm sorry Sarah, you might find some 4,000 year old Grizzly tracks with men in Alaskan river beds, but no Tyrannosarus Rex - he was long gone!

EXITOTOXINS, The Taste That Kills

Those of us who are already dealing with neurological issues need to take extra care in avoiding these toxins( SEE LINK BELOW) but everybody should avoid them. The EPA is finally doing some meaningful research. Notice the first one the list is Apartame/Nutrasweet, MSG and other free forms of glutamate are exitotoxins that can permanently damage neurons by overstimulating them. There is very good evidence now that they can cause Atrial Fibrillation, severe headaches, Alzheimer's, ALS, Parkinson's, Dementia and possibly Autism in children.

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/12/21/risky-business-epa-builds-list-of-potentially-dangerous-chemica/?icid=main%7Chtmlws-main-n%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%7C191577

I have been preaching about the evils of MSG/Aspartame for years since it can cause my atrial fibrillation and especially together as I found out at a Chinese Buffet in Tyler and a trip to the ER. Diet drinks with traditional Chinese food is a deadly combination!!! Some restaurants in Dallas advertise food without MSG but I still don't trust them because the FDA allows them to hide it under many names like hydrolyzed yeast/vegetable protein/soy same as soy/teriyaki sauce which can be 10%-15% MSG. You cannot cook Chinese without some form of soy sauce. Have you seen the Campbell's Soup ad about Chicken Broth with no MSG? - the chicken is running away, does that tell you something? Campbell's Soup Co. puts more MSG In their products than all the Chinese put together and now they advertise no MSG in some soups, but read the label carefully, it is hidden and the FDA lets them do it. Buy Whole Foods organic 365 soups and they taste better and non toxic!
Use Stevia as a sugar substitute and lay off diet drinks!! They actually make you gain weight and cause brain damage!! Bourbon in Diet Coke - a deadly combination!

MY CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE 79th KIND WITH CLEOPATRA

Cleopatra,
79th Grandmother
of Indignant Chemist

(note: All large/small numbers are written in the exponential format
2,000 = 2 x 103 or 2xE3)

I have often wondered why I have an uncanny, often obsessive, attraction to all things ancient Egyptian, from my King Tut puzzle that I got at a souvenir shop stop on Pike's Peak to my excessive Christmas tree full of rare Polish hand blown glass Egyptian ornaments. I even have two of each one of these ornaments just in case one gets broken. My friends see my tree at Christmas and I can sense that they are probably asking themselves "why is he so obsessed with his Egyptian ornaments and not Santa, Rudolph, Sexy Angel, Lady Gaga , Hooters girls or Frosty?
Sexy Angel or rare Polonaise Egyptian ornaments, that is the question???

http://alrioart.com/zazzle/ornaments.php

The answer could be as bizarre as my obsession. While traveling back in time 2,000 years on my family tree via Ancestry.com, I suddenly came upon Cleopatra III, then II, and finally Cleopatra I, who was my 77th great grandmother (204 AD-176 AD). The pieces of the puzzle seemed somewhat complete! There is a theory, among parapsychologists that supports a model for genetic memory which is a transfer of biochemical storage of memory (like a computer chip) directly through one's DNA from generation to generation. Could this be happening to me after 2,000 years - a mere blink in time?

The question arises - just how much genetic material do I have now that was in Cleopatra's original DNA strands? My best estimate is 3.8 million molecules and therefore around 53 million original atoms based on the fact that the human genome (chromosomes) contains slightly more than 3 billion base pairs of molecules of (cytosine-guanine) and (uracil-thymine) in nearly infinite sequences which determines our unique genetic identity and carries our genetic code for all our characteristics and traits, both good and bad!

A helical DNA strand made up of the 4 base pairs and the Phosphate - deoxyribose sugar backbone. The base pairs, rungs in the ladder, are held in place by weak hydrogen bonds that unzip during replication/cell division (mitosis).

Meiosis is a process of reductional division in which the number of chromosomes per cell is cut in half to form reproductive cells. In animals, meiosis always results in the formation of sperm and eggs. As with mitosis, before meiosis begins, the DNA in the original cell is replicated . Two cell divisions separate the replicated chromosomes into four haploid gametes, either sperm or eggs.
During meiosis in ovaries/testicles, the genome of a diploid germ cell, which is composed of long segments of DNA packaged into chromosomes, undergoes DNA replication followed by two rounds of division, resulting in four haploid gamete cells. Each of these cells contains one complete set of chromosomes, or half of the genetic content of the original cell. If meiosis produces gametes, these cells must fuse during fertilization to create a new diploid cell, or zygote before any new growth can occur. Thus, the division mechanism of meiosis is a reciprocal process to the joining of two genomes that occurs at fertilization. Because the chromosomes of each parent undergo recombination during meiosis, each gamete, and thus each zygote, will have a unique genetic blueprint encoded in its DNA. Together, meiosis and fertilization constitute sexual reproduction in animals, and generate genetically distinct individuals in populations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_genomeorg/wiki/Human_genome

The human genome is the genome of Homo Sapiens, which is stored on 23 chromosome pairs. Twenty-two of these are autosomal chromosome pairs, while the remaining pair is sex-determining X and Y. The diploid (body cell) human genome contains a total of just over 3 billion DNA base pairs, but after meiosis, the haploid genome in gametes contains only 1.5 billion base pairs. The Human Genome Project (HGP) produced a reference sequence of the euchromatic human genome, which is used worldwide in biomedical sciences.
The 23 chromosomal pairs containing the human genome, our genetic footprint for all our traits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Genome_Project

The 23 chromosomal pairs containing the human genome, our genetic footprint for all our traits and characteristics.
Starting with 1.5 billion base pairs per gamete (sperm/egg), the haploid genome, (1/2 of the original chromosomal pair), then recombines during fertilization with the haploid genome from the other parent to restore the diploid 23 pairs of chromosomes .

Passage of Cleopatra's original base pairs through 79 meioses and recombinations adds a certain amount of error and disorder (entropy) creating genetic defects. The approximate numbers of her actual genes transferred through 79 recombinations is impossible to determine, but an approximate calculation was done. Assuming that one-half of the base pairs are transferred during fertilization and recombined with a new set of base pairs from the other parent, it is only possible to reach an approximate answer.

The total number of strands/macromolecules of DNA in the human body, 10E13 , or ten trillion contain very few molecules of the original DNA in each nucleus of every cell in our bodies from of all our ancestors, more in recent ones The number varies with body size and would be a relatively small number , but in atomic terms it can be large.
By the way, ten trillion is one trillion less than dollars of our national debt...a scary situation!

Therefore: After 79 meioses and recombinations
(1.5E9 base pairs in Cleopatras egg/ 79 meioses&recombinations) x 2 molecules/pair =
3.8E6 base molecules

Therefore the number of atoms retained from Cleopatra would roughly be:
3.8E6 base molecules x (14 atoms (average*)/base molecule) =
53 million C, N, O, H atoms

*The average number, 14 atoms/molecule is based on the molecular formulas of the four bases
C4H5N3O ( 13 in cytosine), C5H6N2O2 (15 in thymine), C4H4N2O2 (12 in uracil) and C5H5N5O ( 16 in guanine)

53.2 million atoms is not a huge number of atoms. By comparison, 7.5 trillion carbon atoms will fit on a single period (.) with a diameter of 0.5 mm, on the paper I am printing this on.
See the link for an interesting calculation:

http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/mats05/mats05057.htm

and this is hard to believe! 7.5 trillion of them in one layer on a period (0.5mm wide) on this paper??

Detailed images of carbon atoms showing the s and p electron clouds predicted by Quantum Mechanics over 60 years ago. All my ex Chemistry students used to ask me - How do you know they actually exist and look like that? Now I can say - an actual digital image is worth a thousand words!
http://www.insidescience.org/research/first_detailed_photos_of_atoms

Keep in mind how small the carbon atoms are @ 0.17 nanometer diameter
where 1 nanometer = 10-9 meter or 1 billionth of a meter. Therefore:
(0.17 nanometer/atom) x (1meter/1E9 nanometer) x (1 meter/1E3 mm)
= 1.7 E-7 mm = 1.7 ten millionths of a mm

or 170 billionths of a millimeter
and they are only 1 atom thick on a period - and this is hard to believe -
7.5 trillion of them in one layer on a period of the paper??
Amazing but true!!

For the sake of simplicity let's assume all the 53 million ( 2 sig figs)
or so atoms from Cleopatra are carbon, what would they weigh?
(the atomic masses of carbon @12 amu, O @ 16 amu, N@ 14 amu and H@ amu have an average mass close to C @12 atomic mass units = actually 11 amu to 2 significant figures, but the error is trivial.)
Assuming they are all carbon atoms, a pure tiny invisible dot of carbon atoms would weigh
53 x 10E6 atoms C x (12 g C (atomic mass per mole)/ 6.02 x 10E23 atoms per mole) =1.1 x 10E-15 grams C = 1.1 femtograms C atoms

note: a mole is the chemist's dozen, Avogadro's number, or 6.02E23 particles per mole, the number of atoms/particles contained in the atomic mass of an element or compound.

A femtogram, 1E-15 gram, is one of the smallest unit of mass in the metric system but that may change. The smallest when I was in High School was the microgram, 1E-6 gram. There is a realm of research now at the picogram level, picotechnology, so the next is femtotechnology!

1.1 femtograms of carbon visualized as a tiny black Egyptian Onyx spherical crystal . It would be invisible because the limit of naked eye visibility of atoms is about 10E12 , a trillion atoms or 1\7 th of the carbon atoms in a 12 point font period (.)
Now, the final question is:

Was there enough atoms to transfer genetic memory from Cleopatra to me? Engineers are now making nano and picogram designed sized working computer chips with bytes of memory and even atomic chips with bytes of memory - so, yes, I believe it may be possible!
They are even working on neuron, molecular and yes, even atomic memory size memory systems, so it is entirely feasible memory could be retained in a molecule or macromolecule!

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=the-first-nanochipss

Since there are roughly 53 million atoms and electrons in my body that were once part of Cleopatra's genome, then I can assume that some bytes of information have been passed as genetic memory in the molecules, atoms and electrons in those atoms. They could have been stored and transferred as electronic patterns that make up my memory in special neurons in my the brain much like the ones and zeros make the digital patterns that are stored and transferred as digital data/memory on chips.

THE ENTROPY FACTOR: The 3 billion base pairs of the haploid human genome correspond to about 750 megabytes of data, since every base pair can be coded by 2 bits. The entropy rate (acquired disorder) of the genome differs significantly between coding and non-coding sequences. It is close to the maximum of 2 bits per base pair for the coding sequences (about 45 million base pairs), but less for the non-coding parts. It ranges between 1.5 and 1.9 bits per base pair for the individual chromosome, except for the Y chromosome, which has an entropy rate below 0.9 bits per base pair. The entropy rate is low in each base pair, so much of the original memory trace could stay intact, assuming it would act like a computer memory chip and retain the electrical patterns of memory traces. Quantum entropy errors occur in computer chips occur when electrons are ejected spontaneously and create unexplained glitches in data, but occurs routinely in all matter and causes mutations in DNA over millions of years - after only 2,000 years, it should not be a factor in disruption of any memory traces.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_genome

Every time I take a breath of air or a drink of water or eat anything, I take in a few water molecules of everyone who has lived from Einstein to Jesus to Cleopatra, so a few have been added and subtracted in as we breathe, eat and excrete water and waste every day. But, according to statistical laws, we retain a few atoms throughout our life incorporated into our cells/protoplasm. The numbers must be vanishingly small, but still they must exist!
I do have a fascination for life among the pyramids and a certain fascination with the life and times of Cleopatra and her romance with Mark Antony. ( My wife, Myra, thinks I've been watching too many episodes of the Tudors and Rome) I was totally absorbed in the series on HBO, Rome, a few years ago and some things seemed very familiar to me in the story. Also, the very first time I went to Rome and other European cities I could walk down certain old streets and know I had been there before and never get lost for hours and always find my way back - different from Deja Vu - I attribute it to genetic memory!

I have no attraction to the character of Mark Antony, but was rather strangely attracted to Cleopatra in the episodes of Rome and Liz Taylor's character in the movie Cleopatra, but then all the 21 year-old young men had a special fantasy about Liz Taylor in 1963, mine was probably a little more real than most (now I think I understand why)! I suppose it's acceptable to have a fantasy about your 78th Grandmother that far removed since it doesn't involve a cast of many (a Roman orgy) including Mark Antony!
My final question would be :

Who was the Daddy???

Mark Antony, the Pharoah or the pool boy? Back then, royals were never sure because their entertainment was their courtesans/lovers, no TV and no DNA testing!

Hopefully, she wasn't as bad as historians have depicted her!

CLEOPATRA, the movie, 1963
And finally, I'm sure my Mom and Dad, and my girlfriend ,1963, were quite happy my fantasy was about Cleopatra (Elizabeth Taylor) and not Mark Anthony (Richard Burton)!

Myra, my wife, certainly is!

Thanks, Myra for typing this essay/thesis as well as typing my graduate school thesis and dissertation .
I dedicate this to you Myra, my Egyptian princess in this lifetime!
(Myra is a very old middle eastern name originating from Myra, an ancient town in Turkey where the original Saint Nickolas was from)

IS ADULTERY A NATURAL HUMAN CONDITION?

The question is: Does a new book, Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality, written by an anthropologist, Christopher Ryan , and other evidence by valid researchers get Clinton and many others completely off the hook? After all the Europeans don't even bat an eye when their politicians/royalty consort with their courtesans and mistresses and the French validate it - De Gaulle's mistress marched along his wife in his funeral procession.

It was Bill Clinton who first got Christopher Ryan thinking about monogamy. As a doctoral student in psychology in the late 1990s, he kept wondering: "How is it that the most powerful man in the world is getting publicly humiliated for having a casual sexual relationship with someone?" And it wasn't just Clinton, of course. Again and again, leaders were putting themselves in a position where "they could lose everything" for the sake of an affair. Ryan devoted his dissertation to an examination of the roots of human sexual behavior and suggests, in a new book co-written with his wife, psychiatrist Cacilda Jetha, that we re-evaluate the idea that monogamy comes naturally to men and women – and look at whether it should even be something we require of our spouses. In Sex at Dawn, to be published this summer by HarperCollins, Ryan and Jetha point to anthropological and biological evidence that humans are designed to seek variety in sexual experiences. The myth, says Ryan, who writes a blog at PsychologyToday.com, is that "you should be completely happy, completely fulfilled with one partner for 50 years. But that's not the design of the human organism. "In fact," he says from their home in Spain, "the human organism is designed for the exact opposite of that."

"Adultery has been documented in every human culture studied," Ryan and Jetha write in the book. If monogamy is such a natural state, the authors ask, why are so many people driven to cheat? Ryan and Jetha trace many modern ideas about matrimony and monogamy back to Darwin and a Victorian understanding of sexuality. To support their theory that the story is much more complex, they examine early human cultures and those of remote tribes that don't place a high value on monogamy. Some people believed babies could receive genetic material from multiple fathers, so women were encouraged to have sex with men who could pass on different positive characteristics. Ryan's hope is that the book will prompt readers to question their beliefs about monogamy, though he knows many will be incredulous at the suggestion that adultery comes naturally. The authors are actually in favor of matrimony – especially, Ryan says, when "it provides an emotionally and economically stable environment for a kid to grow up in." The problem, as he sees it, comes when an expectation of absolute fidelity is placed on marriage. "There's a lot of suffering – and what I would say is unnecessary suffering – between couples who have unnecessary expectations of what life is going to be like," he says.

I personally believe that Americans may be a bit behind other cultures in their white knight views about marriage and that it probably is an unnatural state that is difficult to maintain for 30 - 40+ years. It is actually programmed into a man's DNA to spread his DNA to as many as possible to preserve the gene pool and the alpha dominant men are really driven to do so. That is a proven fact and we are the only primates that don't generally live that way - not counting certain cultures. Monogamy within a culture can actually result in more birth/genetic defects over the centuries. Looks like even big Al Gore has found a new love interest - who would have thought he would ever leave Tipper?? Maybe she just got painfully bored with his Inconvenient truth BS! I wonder if his new love is ecologically green enough and has a small enough carbon footprint for him??

The Dumbing Down in Public Schools and Political Correctness Gone Mad!An Alarming Trend in Public Schools

There is an alarming trend in public schools, probably due to NEA liberal policies much like distribution of income/socialism that Obama and his progressives in his administration advocate.
Some schools are giving the title of valedictorian to all "A" students or the top 10 even if some have been taking all honors and Advanced Placement (college level courses). This is just part of the national liberal move toward mediocrity and removing competition among students to avoid self esteem, political correct and equality issues with students. Do you think that the Germans, Japanese, and Chinese will follow this trend - I don't think so.

We have been slowly dropping behind in science and math for years and this will accelerate that trend. I coached the state champion UIL science team at Highland Park High school for 20 years and believe me the drive to be #1 in the class is a strong factor in competition and excellence at the highest levels. This is another reason why I believe the public schools are doomed to mediocrity and ultimate failure and the private and charter schools will be the future of education. If you take away a major reward for success, you will take away the drive to excel in the very best, brightest, college bound students.

My home town ,Tyler Texas , used to be a model school district which many other school districts modeled but has slowly eroded due to liberal policies. A teacher was actually killed on campus by an psychologically unstable student who should have been in an alternate (like jail) school setting due to previous criminal activity even after warnings were given to administration and counselors - unbelievable, but sadly true! The civil rights of a dangerous student was more important than than faculty safety - God forbid we wouldn't want to damage a student's self esteem!
By the way, many conservative educators and politicians like Newt Gingrich advocate abolishing the Department of Education and the NEA as it exists today because of the destructive effects of rampant liberalism in American school administrations and the "dumbing down" effects on students.
According to a conservative high school classmate of mine from Tyler who is a Constitutional scholar, says the Department of Education is unconstitutional and should be abolished!

The reason why Highland Park will survive is because it refuses all federal funds and doesn't pay any attention to the NEA. It is a "private" public school and has its own funding from a private foundation to supplement what the socialistic "Robin Hood" tax redistribution plan takes away every year.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/27/education/27valedictorians.html?_r=1

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002336475_garfield15m.html

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2010/06/more_high_schools_are_honoring.

Another indication that liberal policies in public schools, like teaching less American exceptionalism and history, is dumbing down students was evident in a Fourth of July survey today of young Americans in which 26% didn't know we gained our independence from Great Britain. Some actually answered China????
This is much like what you see on Jay Leno's show when he asks people on the street very easy questions that all Americans should know, like what happened on the Fourth of July and who George Washington was yet they know who Fifty Cent, the rapper and Lady Gaga are! Unbelievable but true!
True progressive socialists don't believe America is exceptional and we should open our borders and establish a world government and economy like Europe has done and balance the wealth among nations - a scary possibility with Obama in charge! Consequently they don't want our children to know much about our great American History and Heritage!! We must reverse this trend somehow or our children will suffer in a European socialistic society.

Sex Addiction Rehab - A Myth for Celeb Atonement

I have been thinking that this sex addiction trend among celebs to get off the hook when they get busted in their serial polygamous lifestyle is an urban myth. First of all, I am not defending Tiger's actions but only arguing that the label "Sex Addict" has been commercialized and ligitimized by entrepreneurs. It is promoted by expensive therapists, the National Inquirer and other magazines, Dr. Phil, Oprah and other talk show hosts. The AMA doesn't classify it as a legitimate disorder. Just because Dr Phil and Oprah showcase people on his show with the "addiction" and the National Inquirer has headlines to that effect doesn't mean it is valid. Many of his peers don't accept Dr. Phil as a therapist because of his Jerry Springer style approach. There is an ongoing debate and many psychologists debunk the myth and label. I personally think it is an excuse for serial cheating among celebs so they can "come clean" and save their marriage or millions when in divorce court .
Does anyone actually believe that bad boy Jesse James will suddenly give up his harem of stripper/hookers after spending a month with one
of Dr. Phil's buddies at some $50,000/month rehab ranch in Sedona with other celeb addicts.
I told Myra, my wife, when Sandra married Jesse James, whose uncle is a great great grandson of the outlaw of the same name, that it was a mistake but many women including Sandra Bullock, apparently still believe the White Knight myth. Not if they are an obvious Black Knight and ride in on a Harley horse with tattoos from top to bottom and divorced from a porn star - just to mention a few red flags; Sandra must be color blind. What is it with those nicer Hollywood leading ladies who always marry bad boys and when they win the Oscar the boys come out of their dark closets? Maybe the ladies need some real therapy before marrying them and have iron clad prenups.
Tiger's complete disregard for everyone is disturbing - his testosterone level and his alpha maleness must be at a max. Testosterone is a very strong drug but can be controlled. In women it can actually have a similar effect in later life when estrogen levels subside and testosterone increases proportionately or given as a supplement. It may be a factor in the "cougar" tendency/trend past 50 or so.
Does anybody believe that Tiger Woods is digressing back to a Cub and stay at home with mamma Tiger 24/7 and not stalk some new partners at an after party after a tough day on the course?
Now for the Biochemical aspect! The man with many partners is simply having a problem with commitment, but to say he's addicted to sex seems like saying we're addicted to water if we stay thirsty due to our physiology and like to drink from several sources as we should for native trace minerals. A man who feels a need for frequent sex isn't an addict; he probably has a strong libido due to a high level of testosterone . The innate desire to spread our DNA as far as possible is hard wired into our behavior. I suppose we could say: Tiger Woods is addicted to his own testosterone, but that would seem absurd; therein lies the paradox!
Are the Bonobo monkeys addicted to sex because they have group sex 24/7 ? - absolutely not, their behavior is considered normal for them and their main social pastime much like the French!
So does a naturally high level of testosterone always lead to apparent addictive or is it compulsive behavior? Can it lead to rape, child molestation and other sex crimes? Apparently it can become obcessive compulsive although some chemicals are released after sex similar to Oxycodone that could support the addiction model. In the old days castration was a punishment for serial rapists and that is a cure. Our prison populations are disproportionately represented by those with high testosterone and the criminal gene, so apparently it is a factor in sexual criminal behavior, but sex addiction, I believe, is the wrong way to characterize sexual behavior with high or normal testosterone. If women are overly promiscuous should they be characterized as addicts or simply victims of compulsive behavior based on similar physiological and emotional needs while considering the "place for men versus reason for women" argument which does support the testosterone model because eunuchs behave much more like women in that respect?
If a married young couple has typical married sex every day for a year, like some couple did on a bet on a reality show, are they considered addicted? - No, because they are married. If that same guy were single and had a variety of sex with different women for 365 days then he is labeled an serious addict. That is the paradox! After sex everyday for a year with the same partner that couple is probably ready for real sexual rehab, back and prostate surgery, real closed door therapy with Dr. Phil and a lifetime Rx for MegaViagra!
